Hannah Maria Ford (nee Lutge) (abt 1872 to 1954) - The fifth child of Peter Benson and Mary Lutge

The mystery of the missing birth registrations for the children of Peter and Mary Lutge remains!  More time is scheduled at the Mitchell Library to continue searching for microfilm of baptism records for St Mary's Cathedral.  At least I've narrowed the search to Catholic Church records.....

Again, I'm basing the birth date of Hannah Maria, the fifth child of Peter Benson and Mary, on the information on her parents' death registrations.  Hannah Maria was born in about 1872 - two years after her brother Peter Benson.  Hannah would have been born in The Rock, Sydney as her parents were living there at this time.  She would have moved with her family to Mosman in the 1880s.

In 1891, Hannah married Charles Henry Ford in Sydney.  Charles was born about 1873 in Middlesbrough, England and arrived in Australia in the late 1800s.

Hannah and Charles were living on the lower North Shore of Sydney until the 1920s.  They are shown as living at Station Street Wentworthville in the 1930 Electoral Roll.  Hannah and Charles had four daughters-
  • Ivy Mary - 1892 to 02 October 1965,
  • Winifred May (Winnie) - 1894 to 08 July 1962,
  • Mosselle Marguerite (Mossie) - 1895 to 10 June 1944 and
  • Doris Margaret - 1905 to 25 October 1978.
Family of Hannah and Charles Ford

The search goes for descendants of Hannah and Charles to find out more of the family history.

Charles died on 28 September 1936 at Seven Hills, NSW.  The obituary published in the Sydney Morning Herald is very informative with another strong rugby league connection:-

"Mr. Charles Henry Ford, electrical engineer of the Blacktown and Baulkham Hills Shire Council, died this week, aged 63.

Mr. Ford came from Middlesbrough, England, more than 40 years ago. He had been associated with the Blacktown Shire since the inception of its electricity undertaking nine years ago, and with Baulkham Hills Shire for a number of years.

During the war he was in charge of the electricity supply at Canberra.  In his early days he was a prominent footballer, and was one of the pioneers of the New South Wales Rugby Football League. He was a vice-president of the league in its first year in 1908, and was one of the managers of the 1911 Australian team that toured England.  Mr. Ford was a patron of the Wentworthville sub-branch of the Returned Soldiers' League, and a member of the Masonic Lodge, Wentworthville. He was treasurer of the New South Wales branch of the Municipal Officers' Association."
